SO THE STORY BEGINS...

...with a message in a bottle. A shout for help! Would you help?

FROZEN

Lost on an endless sea. A boy and a girl sit on an ice floe. They do not remember anything, nothing at all. Before everything was frozen, the girl sends a message in a bottle. A shout for help, an SOS! One day the sea returns a message in a bottle to her. Someone received and answered the girl’s message. LOOK! LISTEN! The bottle contained many kind wishes. The kindness and warmth of the message thawed her fingers.

ROOTS

She whispers: “Now I remember – I see the apple tree; I see the house, the stairs and the kitchen; I see the cat drinking milk from its bowl; I see the stars over the house I see the light in my heart.”

SEARCH

She starts making a boat out of the paper with the message in the bottle. LOOK! The small boat is taking shape and growing in her hands. It grows so big that she has to let it go. So big that she can crawl on board. They can get away! But now she remembers – the boy! He is her friend, he has come with her. However, he does not see anything! Not the ship, nor the girl. RESIGNATION wraps its arms around the boy and cradles him. Tears slide down on his cold cheek and fall on the ice, melting it. He is sinking.  However, last minute, the girl grabs hold of the boy and pulls him in the boat. Time is slipping away while small waves move the ship slowly forward.

DREAM

At times, the stars reflect on the shiny surface of the sea, and then disappear again in the dark. But one day, the sparkling dots cluster together and shape a planet. Seductive and sweet scented dream bubbles dance around the two children, into a fairground of candyfloos fantasies. The kids would like to stay here forever, inside the dream bubbles, to hatch in the growing dreams. They want it all! Everything they wish for! LUCK and FORTUNE! A dream life. But then DISSAPOINTMENT sneaks in on them. It steals the dreams and draws in the darkness again. The wonderful planet evaporates, as if it were just an illusion. The children are back in the boat, surrounded by darkness. “Now I only dream of getting out of the dark. Right foot, Left foot”, whispers the girl. “Yes”, the boy answers. “I wish to feel the light in my eyes.”

ANXIETY

A bright flash in the sky cuts through the darkness. A roar follows. Dark grey clouds are racing across the sky above them. The ocean recedes like a wounded animal. The two children tremble and cling on the rails.  But soon, a sudden hard bump propels them over the ship’s edge, ashore on a rocky ground. The ship must have hit a rock. Fumbling around in the dark, the bruising children barely succeed in rising to their feet. Then, a new flash of light breaks through the darkness. They now see where they are: Decay, Chaos, and Ruin.  A new bang lays everything in smoldering darkness again. But voices in the dark whisper: “Here I am”, says ANXIETY. “Feel me”, PAIN whispers. ANXIETY and PAIN have sharp shoulders. They turn into giants soaring above the children. They step on the light of the heart. The boy takes the girl’s hand and asks: “Are you scared?” Yes, but not when you hold my hand. “I am” he answers, “always”, and pulls her along towards the boat. Both pushes together. They get away!

DARKNESS

Look! The rocky island has carved a whole in the ship. Listen! Black water whirls in. The boat is sinking and the quicksand from the at bottom is drawing them down. They land together on the long arms of SHAME. Everything seems to be over now; it is too late! But look: a small figure appears by their side. It is GRIEF. She teaches the children to breathe in the deep water, and lets tears of stone fall from their eyes shaping a path of stones showing them the way to a staircase. With heavy steps they walk. The boy is at good speed, the girl feels each step as a heavy path. Suddenly she notices a red door – an emergency exit. The girl opens the door and enters it without hesitation or a looking back. The boy calls her but she does not hear him anymore. Something has got her. Something big and violent.

ANGER

It is ANGER that has taken the girl. ANGER has Hatred in one hand and Revenge in the other. She is FURIOUS now. But why should everything go away? Why should darkness erase everything? If she wants to kick she will. Her look is red with rage when the boy sees her. She is burning. And then the boy remembers her from the time before; her fire, her wildness. FORTUNA – her remembers her name. “FORTUNA!” he shouts. Everything is now silent. She turns to him. “Yes, I am Fortuna!” She looks at him and sees his eyes red from crying as he stands next door into darkness.“And …and you are LUCK. You are my friend, LUCK.” “Yes”, he whispers. “I am LUCK and I want life back.” Fortuna nods. “Yes, we want life back. WE WILL HAVE LIFE BACK!” they shout together and start lifting up like an elevator; right up to the surface. But here they see NOTHING – nothing but the endless black sky and the flat sea – but hear the laughter of Disappointment. Looking up at the elevator, there is a small figure standing – the WILL. It is her who pulled them up. She aims at Disappointment with her canon which hushes and hides, saying that she can remove them the dark.

HOPE

They venture into sliding across the ocean: first Fortuna, then Luck – as agreed. They land in a swamp from a forest clearing. HOPE is taking roots in their bodies. But there is also something else that lingers on. Are they really free from dark? It is doubt that pushes Hope. But Hope whispers that they must continue to seek the light out there. And then they see it. Light comes slowly towards them followed by Joy…

NEW BEGINNING

Now, a new world is coming to greet them, a new beginning, a new home. LOOK! LISTEN! Here children play, live and laugh. A boy shouts: “What are your names?” “LUCK and FORTUNE!” answer the two slightly cautious. The boy shouts it to others as well and Luck and Fortuna notice it and say “How nice to have your own name”.
